Prof. Dr. Vo Van Sen, Former President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities, Vietnam National University – Ho Chi Minh City, is a professor of and an expert on the History of Vietnam, Contemporary History of Vietnam, Economic History of Vietnam, the Vietnam War, History of Vietnamese Culture, etc. In addition, he has served as a member of the Council on Political Theory of the Central Committee of VCP since September 2016. He acquires rich experiences having assumed over 20 major positions in well-known academic affiliations such as Association of Vietnamese Historians; Korean Studies Association in Southeast Asia (KSASA), Australia; among many others.
He was invited by Harvard University, USA to be a visiting scholar for one year during academic year 1992-1993; and from 1998 to 2000, he was a visiting professor at the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Asian Studies, Nagoya University of Commerce and Business Administration, Japan.
Apart from undergraduate and post-graduate teaching, he has been in charge of supervising over 100 master theses and doctoral dissertations; and attended numerous international seminars, symposiums, workshops, conferences in the USA, Japan, Thailand, the Philippines, Austria, Spain, the UK, Malaysia, India, Australia, Hong Kong, Korea, China, etc.
He holds the authorship and co-authorship of over 60 books and papers published in Vietnamese as well as in English. Some of the most famous works of his are The Issues of Land Tenure in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam; History of Vietnam (1954-1975); The Development of Capitalism in South Vietnam (1954-1975); Political Culture and Ethnicity – an Anthropological Study in Southeast Asia; Some urgent Issues on Khmer People in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam in the process of Industrialization and Modernization; The socio-economic change in Sourthern Vietnam from 1975 till now (2017); The Economic History of Vietnam (2017); “The significance of Vietnamese Korean cultural exchanges to the development of New Asia” (2010 Asia Culture Forum Monograph, Korea), etc. With these achievements, Prof. Dr. Sen’s expertise about his field of research is often sought by the media, and he has been frequently quoted in a lot of newspapers, journals and other books.
